Daniel Callaghan, BAIn the 2006 election, I was too young to vote. In the 2008 election, I didn’t care enough to vote. In the 2011 election I cast a vote for the first time, but with little knowledge outside of the fact that I liked what they stood for. In 2015, I am a fully informed voter that knows exactly what each of the parties stands for, and exactly where my vote is going and why. This was a developmental process that took the better part of a decade to develop, and that is my reason for getting behind this project 100%. I believe that our country can’t wait a decade for our youth to get involved and vote.
Only 38.8% of the age demographic 18-24 years old cast a vote last election. What I hear from this group, almost exclusively, is their desire for progressive change but disillusionment as to how we can get there. If we can just find a way to motivate this demographic, we can change the face of our country for the better. It is my belief that fostering an interest in voting now will ensure that we have a demographic cohort that will be permanently engaged in politics, and thus will be active contributors to our countries wellbeing for the rest of their lives. This project is the simple beginnings of this effort, and I truly hope to see it take off. Thank you for visiting our webpage, and please, remember to get out and vote. |
